Buy 1, Give 1

In 2007, Chicharon Adventures began a collaboration with Bukid Kabataan. We worked together to organize a t-shirt drop in Cavite, Philippines. It works like this: For every charity t-shirt you buy, we will send one to a child of Bukid Kabataan on your behalf.

Founded in 1989, Bukid Kabataan is a therapeutic shelter for children who have experienced physical and sexual abuse by their own families. Some have been abandoned or orphaned having lived on the streets prior to their arrival at the center. The shelter empowers the children through psychological healing and building of self-esteem, physical development, education, and occupational training such as farming.

The center houses both male and female children ranging from 7 – 17 years of age. On their compound, there are residential buildings (one for males and one for females), the school, and the convent. The school educates children in grades 1 – 6. Older children are bused to a nearby school, as the center is unable to accommodate their educational needs. The two bedroom residencies have multiple bunk beds and lockers for 8 – 10 children to share.

Through this project, Chicharon Adventures hopes to raise awareness about the marginalized population of the Filipino culture. Our first t-shirt released in January 2008 had the words "Love, Life, Hope" to illustrate the feelings that every child deserves. Our second t-shirt released in January 2009 reads "Be a change, CA change".

We will continue this program throughout the entire year with fresh designs releasing annually.
