TASCHEN December 2 2009
Thanks to special holiday hours, I was finally able to check out a Taschen store last weekend. I have an affinity for coffee table style reads, for encyclopedic reference type books, and for best of type collections. The German publisher gives me all that with a smorgasbord of topics ranging from fashion to architecture, from 20th century icons to pop culture. Their store at the Farmer’s Market on Fairfax is tiny, but packed. I picked up their “Fashion Now” series - I was sold on the profiles of Shawn Stussy and Nigo. And also an art book on Utagawa Hiroshige - the Japanese ukiyo-e artist. I really wanted this pictorial history book of Los Angeles - the first photographic study of the city collated into one volume. But the book is huge, 500+ pages and over a foot tall. I need to find space in my shelf for it first…
