FEW THINGS August 29 2009

There are a few things that I intend for this entry, so I’m just gonna list it all out instead of breaking them apart.

First off, rest in peace DJ AM. I am a huge fan of his and the entire mash-up genre. My iTunes library is a smorgasbord of DJ mixes, most of them from AM. I remember the first time I heard one of them. I was sold when I heard the transition between J Timberlake’s “Like I Love You” and The Mamas and Papas “California Dreaming”. Since that moment, I’d never pass up a chance to hear him, and he opened my ears to new sounds I didn’t know existed. This has been a mean ass summer. I realize that I’ve blogged about death way too many times in the last three months. It is unreal. Music has lost an incredible talent, dance parties have lost inspiration, aspiring DJs have lost their hero. May the angels take you in, Adam Goldstein. Thank you for making my commutes more tolerable and my parties more fun. You’ll always be the best DJ I’ve ever heard.

Secondly, happy birthday to Michael Jackson. I’m still devastated about his death (which seemed to create a snowball effect this summer). Last night, Hand and Heart hosted a tribute in honor of the King of Pop, where me, Christine Aquino, Rhythm Natives, and The Big Pill participated. Young and old were in attendance, speaking volumes about MJs timeless music. I’ll have photo and video coverage of the night shortly.

And finally, to make this post less morbid, tonight is The Big Pill show at the Pasadena Jazz Institute. Doors open at 8pm, all ages are welcome. The Pasadena Jazz Institute is closing its doors for good, and The Big Pill will be their last performance. Ironically, it’s TBP’s first performance at the acclaimed venue. Don’t sleep on this, the guys have prepared THREE sets for their fans.

Thank you for reading.
