BlogCA New Releases

BRANDING April 6 2009

We got a few new things to add to the inventory. Forgive me if these shots aren't so great. I usually take preview photos of new gear when I pick them up at Sunday, but this time Paul was kind enough to drop them off to me and the goods went straight into the car.

Back in August of last year, we printed a lookbook to bring with me to Manila. The cover of that book had an image of the peeking pig. I ultimately want to be at the point where the pig can standalone and be somewhat iconic. When people see it, they automatically think of CA. In our first effort to do so (maybe second since we released this last year), we used the same graphic as the lookbook cover. This one is printed in purple and evergreen. The evergreen is on a poly/cotton blend t-shirt.

The red and grey crewnecks released last winter have sold out so we reprinted them, but this time in black. The handwritten CA is something that I doodled on one of the million papers on my desk. We had it vectored for print. I also want this design to standalone. Plus I will admit that it's a lot easier to say than Chicharon Adventures.

And we finally got some new stickers. They are die cut with the pig. They come in five different colorways: black/white, grey/black, baby blue/dark blue, lavender/purple, and light red/dark red.

The new stuff will be online soon. We don't sell the stickers, though. We hand them out at events and also include them with a purchase.

THAT NEW NEW March 23 2009

In the online shop now.

RECYCLE
When I was having a conversation about the brand, I used the words "rethink", "recreate", and "reinvent" to describe CA's mission. We consider ourselves a cultural brand that strays away from the stereotypical and the obvious. I shared that conversation with Cokoy who put this design together. Using the universal recycle graphic, we changed the words to include the abovementioned. It's printed on American Apparel's softest t-shirt, in two colors: athletic grey and athletic blue.

DIRTY DOGS
We also like to throw some LA culture into our tees. The Dirty Dog is an integral part of the Los Angeles ethos; I captured it with this photo taken in Panorama City. I opted to shoot there instead of Hollywood. There's much more detail involved with off brand napkins hanging off the cart, tagged up street lights and walls, and old school strollers parked nearby. This one is printed on a cotton/polyester blend tee in three colors: heather black, heather forest, and heather plum.

Introducing our first collab tee with the Rhythm Natives.

The Rhythm Natives are performing today at UCIrvine. These tees will be available at the event. Beatrock and Eagle Rock Underground will also carry these tees. But these will not be online. You have to either visit one of those stores, or watch a Rhythm Natives show. Don't sleep.

CHANGE January 21 2009

In November '08, we toyed with the idea of releasing a t-shirt that coincided with Obama's campaign. It seemed like everyone gave into the hype, so we put that idea on the back burner. In December '08, we were faced with the task of releasing the second t-shirt under the Buy 1, Give 1 model. We weren't sold on any of our own designs and concepts, and again pushed that release back. It's now January, and we've just put our new tee in the shop.

We thought to combine both situations, using the political climate as inspiration. We are believers in small steps, and know that once you begin your own crusade of change you will see it following around you. It also fits quite well with the charity. Children are learning skills that are not available to them in their own home. They are in fact changing the norm, and seeing that there is more to life than poverty and abuse.

On sale now is Change. It'll hit Beatrock and Backside by the weekend.
