FALL

Jamie (Inrsole) and Jordan (JTabije) graced us at the Chicharon Adventures Fall release photoshoot last night. The new tees will be online this weekend.

Much to our amazement, Sam had a new setup that included a 52" TV that was hooked up to the internet. Let me tell you, it's kind of cool seeing your site that large. Oh, and Jordan's too.

AUTUMN IN CA

Studio Artistre hasn't photographed the Fall release for the world wide web yet, but we wanted to put them up now since they will go on sale at the Fil-Am Expo at the LA Convention Center tomorrow.

First up, the "Revolution" in both black and white. We requested our good friend, Jordan, to design this one. When we started Chicharon Adventures, we wanted to break away from stereotypical culture tees that played on the obvious. We instead wanted to make statements about traditional values, identity, the Los Angeles ethos, etc. All of this was to be done by screenprinting. So we took the poem by Gil Scott-Heron called "The Revolution Will Not be Televised" and put our own spin on it. Because we are changing the way you think/behave about a cultural brand, we are creating a revolution.

Second, it's "Don't Skate" in heather grey. When I took a trip to the Philippines, I noticed that no one in Manila skates. They have surf/skate stores in higher end establishments, but only with a handful of equipment. I saw magazines with photo spreads of people skating, but I never saw it through my own eyes. I even met a guy who asked me if I skated; I said yes. We continued our conversation, and then he asked what music I listen to. When I said hip-hop (among others), he was surprised that hip-hop and skateboarding mixed. They have an interesting outlook on it all. Here's the tee...I guess it's a call to bring skate culture into Manila. Even if it includes hip-hop music.

On sale tomorrow at the Fil-Am Expo, and on sale online next week.

My sleeping patterns are still messed up, but that didn't stop me from the work I had to do today. There's so much going on for Chicharon Adventures in the upcoming weeks; I had to make sure we got to it.

-Mid September: Fall artist series release (you don't want to sleep on this one)
-September 6: Outfit Rhythm Natives for the 17th Annual Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture
-September 13-14: Fil-Am Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center
-October 12: Chicharon Adventures 1 Year BBQ (again, you don't want to sleep on this one)

So mark your calendars. We hope you'll join us.

FACELIFT

Our good friend Jordan has updated his site, jtabije.com. Of course it houses the designs that have made him famous, but it's much more to the point. Bright contrasts of pink and teal are still evident but this time you don't have to sift through the talent - it's right in front of you.

Quite noticeable is the work that he did for yours truly. We approached Jordan earlier this year for a collaboration. Though the tees will not release until the fall, you get to see a sneak peek here and at jtabije.com. I think you'll agree that he did an amazing job at getting the message across. I won't mention how the concept came to fruition--I'll do that when the tee goes into the shop--but I'm sure most of you will get the gist. Jordan's next task: find the colorway.
