RACE TO THE TOP September 3 2010

So two of LA’s Filipino food trucks are participating in the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race”. We have ties to both - Manila Machine will be the first food truck to ever be featured on our e-zine, and White Rabbit is owned by our friends. They need your votes to win a hefty prize of $10k and the opportunity to appear on the channel’s “Great Food Truck Race”. Support HERE!! (Location: Southern CA, then select Manila Machine and White Rabbit)

NON-TOURIST September 2 2010

My cousin is in town this entire week, and I finally met up with her last night. But instead of taking her to the obligatory LA spots, I decided to take her to the studio, where I had to record with Rhythm Natives. The last time she was here, Kim and I showed her where we housed our inventory, so it was neat to show her another facet of CA.

I hadn’t wore my Hybridity shirt in a bit, and when I pulled it out of the drawer, I remembered why we released that shirt in the first place. Kim and I were both students of political science, and heavily studied identity politics and globalization. The world has become so interconnected, meaning interests and therefore personalities have become modified. The idea of ‘home’ and ‘identity’ is in fact, blurred. So that’s why we left that last part blank and released these shirts with a fabric marker, so that you can put who/what your are in your own words. When we got feedback about the shirt, people were putting anything between their ethnicity or their occupation.

It’s one of my favorites because of what it represents. I am a cultural hybridity, I have a hyphenated identity, I am…
