SNAP UR FINGERS January 6 2009 Los Angeles & Music
Our friend Chankla (The Big Pill) put me on the guest list for a Monday night show in West Hollywood. He was on the percussions for headliner, Eden Espinosa, and special guest, Tracie Thoms. Though I was stuck in the corner of the bar with limited view, it didn't matter. I was well equipped with a Kobe burger and several Bailey's on the rocks. But more importantly, the music was amazing. Out of their "element", Chankla, Corey, and Eden are still the shit.

SUNDAY FUNDAY January 4 2009 CA Team
Some of us decided to spend our Sunday afternoon at Disneyland and catch the last holiday fireworks show. It was a good excuse to rekindle my relationship with Canon as my Nikon broke the other day. Though the park was packed and our time was brief, it was enough to make me feel forever young.

DON’T FRONT January 3 2009
I felt like Rev Run while preparing this entry. I was sitting in a waiting room and typing my thoughts on my blackberry...haha.Lately I've been hearing commercials and seeing advertisements about the 'rental' industry. Christmas shopping got you in debt? No worries. You can still get those rims you've been wanting for your ride at rent-a-rim. Wanting to cop that new Iphone but you're not eligible for an upgrade? All good. There's rent-a-mobile. There's even rent-a-luxury-bag for those designer fiends.
I guess I expected something like this to arise. Especially in this city. Even though the economic atmosphere looks grim, the idea of status remains strong. Around here, it's the dubs on your car, the touchscreen cell, and the Italian made bag that define who you are. Rent-a-whatever is simply catering to that image. Sometimes LA is the city you love to hate.

At the same time, the industry serves as a reminder that despite all of this, it really isn't the end of the world. You can thrive (or at least appear so) amidst the foreclosures and weakened currency. Life is still good.
Personally, I think it's all pretty stupid. The grass may be greener on the other side, but there is abundance around you. Creativity, inspiration, and possibility. Just be real, folks.

Happy New Year to you, too, Utah.

It's customary that when we watch a Laker game we visit one of our favorite restaurants near USC. Since we didn't get free tacos from Staples Center, we opted for Chano's. I know I've blogged about them before, and I'm sure I've posted pictures of my usual carne asada taco order. So I'll instead grace you a new addition to my order: chips and salsa. It may not sound that great, but it is. The best pico de gallo served in a styrofoam cup. Ever.
