HOW I MAKE IT [PART TWO] September 30 2011
As expected, here’s part two of my entry about my squad. I feel even more compelled to write about them this morning because I’m reeling from a good night at LIFESWELL, and it’s partially due to these people right here.
Jon is the other MC in Rhythm Natives, my go to guy for music, and the only other 49ers fan I know. He’s not a “yes man” and often tells me like it is. He’s also one of the most humble people I’ve encountered. I’ll tell him how good he is on a track, and he’ll for sure shake his head. Combine those traits and I’ve got a friend that encourages me to listen and be observant, to put my head down and focus. He’s the one dude that brings me back to earth.

Jovin is another partner in Rick & Ray. One of the first things that drew me to him was his hustle and his ability to see everything as an opportunity. He constantly puts himself out there to be known in various industries whether it be at a networking mixer or at an independent hip hop show. He also seems to have figured out the whole having a corporate gig and side business while trying to be a family man thing down to a science. That’s formidable.

Shelly is part of the Rick & Ray collective as the makeup artist, the youngest on my team, and one down ass chick. It’s very cool to see her at work because however painstaking a learning curve may be in her industry, she takes it on with genuine enthusiasm. Besides that ethic, she has taught me to blur the distinction between work and life. I’ve actually taken more time to smell the roses because of her.

I love my team.
