TIME TO KILL August 5 2011
Immediately after Agenda, I had to head over to DTLA for another meeting. I anticipated a lot more traffic, but ended up getting to my destination in only 30 minutes. I killed time by walking around. Some of my favorite blog entries are the ones created by exploration. Like this, where Bojo and I used 7th Street, in between Spring and Main as the subject.

This was taken upstairs in the Rick & Ray office. Perfect timing.

And just because, here’s a photo of our dinner spread that night. Korean BBQ a la Wella and Glen, say what?

AGENDA: FALL/HOLIDAY August 4 2011
I made the hour long trek to Huntington Beach yesterday for day one of Agenda. I’m getting used to the trade show circuit - the meetings, the samples, the hustle. The concept of Agenda can easily be explained by the wristband you get at registration. You’re either an exhibitor, buyer, or press. Exhibitors talk to buyers to stock their store with future lines while the press documents it for the internet, print, or TV. It’s a cycle twice a year, bringing out the who’s who of the surf, skate, and street industries. I fell into two categories yesterday. I was with Backside, buying for the fall and holiday seasons, and I was also press for this entry right here.
It was a cool 75 degrees by the beach, where the US Open of Surfing was happening just down the street.

The schedule for the day.

The Primitive booth.

Every brand there has a way of displaying their upcoming season. More often than not, it’s a simple line sheet. Akomplice, however, takes it a step further with two digital displays where buyers can place their order online.

Meeting with Josh at 10Deep. I love 10Deep and I’ll love them even more once their new stuff drops.

I saw Alex (IMKING) in the lobby, and then stopped by their booth. He took time to show me the detail that’s present in their new pieces.

Ran into this guy, Thurzday. His new album LA RIOT drops Tuesday. Do not sleep.

I talked with Peter of Havasip for a little while. Havasip was sponsoring the show with their social media platform that involves virtual goods.

The homies Leonard and Pinky.

KR3W was my savior that afternoon.

That’s Camille of the 722 Figueroa showroom.

Then finally ending the day at valet with the team from Backside - women’s buyer, Alana, and assistant manager, George.

See you in January.

MEETING LIFE August 3 2011
My weeks are usually filled with meetings…Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Office or Starbucks. R&D or creative. You name it. And sometimes, if I’m lucky, they’ll be scheduled back to back and actually complement each other.
Like when I met up with Andy and Jubal of Primitive.

And then Muggs and Jenn Klein of Soul Assassins.

Hmmmmm. Anyways, I’m off to Agenda for more meetings.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND August 1 2011
And it’s here. The visuals for Rhythm Natives’ Latin inspired, relationship driven song, Make Up Your Mind. I’ve been talking about this track heavily on the blog. Our first meeting with Oishi, the free download, the premiere party at LIFESWELL, and now this. I’ll be dropping behind the scenes in the next couple days so I’m not completely done talking about it…Enjoy!
The perfect relationship, when it comes down to it, is what most of us are in search for. The reality is there is no such thing as “a perfect relationship”. You have to put in the work. “Relationships, easy to get into, hard to maintain”, as Chris Rock would say, is truth. Anyone can find a compatible partner but are you able to work as a team when the going gets tough? You get as much out of your relationship as you put into it. Make Up Your Mind is a relationship based song. Take a listen to the chorus; the lyrics may resonate in your current and/or past situation. If and/or when you are in the midst of “tough times”, what do you do? Do you grow together or do you grow apart?
