WORKING ENVIRONMENT July 6 2011
Some of us paid a visit to producer Ro Blvd‘s studio the other night. The last time I was there, he just got his working space and he wasn’t quite settled. This time, it was filled with things that bring out Ro’s personality. While the boys picked his brain, I was having fun exploring.

Ro’s got a solid collection of movies. Some are still in VHS format, and some are DVDs. He had a bunch of my favorites in his stack like Big Trouble, Little China, Back to the Future, and Karate Kid. When we arrived there, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was playing. Winner!

Music. Music is everywhere. From the vinyl filled shelves to the tower of CDs to the box full of cassette tapes, it’s clear that music is Ro’s thing.

I prefer Hello Kitty or Keroppi, but this will do. The cards were even inside a cassette case.

Then I found this girl just hanging out on the couch. Just kidding…that’s Wella from Rick & Ray.

Before we left, I got to see Ro in his element as he made a simple beat for us. What I love about him is his obvious connection to music. Even with that simple beat he was completely immersed in the sound, bobbing his head and humming the melody.

BEACH LIFE July 5 2011
I escaped the wrath of the valley heat and spent Independence Day beach side. I’m now back home - with a sunburn and an itch to live life as a beach bum. Just sayin.

KWEK KWEK July 4 2011
First off, get your mind out the gutter…
I’m big on street food, especially in the Philippines. While I was there in a city called Taguig, I saw a stand that sold a food called kwek-kwek for ten pesos (pretty much equivalent to free in the US). I was laughing at the name and wondered what it was. But there wasn’t anyone manning the stand. Then on a night trip into Manila, I saw another stand selling the same thing but it was already closed. Long story short, I left the Philippines without trying it.
So I researched it. Simply put, it’s a tempura style soft boiled egg. Sounds mediocre, but the taste is not. And I only realized that now. You see, I never tried to make it myself. That’s what family’s for…I’m currently in Corona del Mar for the holiday, and I just had brunch at my cousin’s house. My cousin is a fantastic cook, and he just made kwek-kwek with corn beef and rice. Between being beachside and eating well, I can totally get used to this life.
