PIZZA PIZZA June 4 2011
My favorite pizza isn’t from New York, or from Chicago, but from my elementary school. We would have pizza day once a month while I was growing up, and after I graduated 8th grade, I would get my fix from the school’s annual fiesta. I don’t know where they get it from, but it really is the best. The other night after the Backside Echo Park grand opening, Eric and I sneaked out of the festivities to grab pizza from the neighboring establishment, Two Boots. Much to my surprise, the pepperoni slice I had tasted exactly like my favorite. Of course Two Boots is more fancy than an elementary school menu; some pizzas have toppings like sun dried tomatoes and andouille. But that’s alright - I’m a lot older now and my palate has evolved. I’m just happy I don’t have to wait til every October to get my fix!

OUR NIGHT June 2 2011
No joke, this was probably one of the best nights of my career. A few months ago, Bambu and his team approached me about the Los Angeles stop of his Smuggler’s Tour. After performing in Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco, et al, he wanted his homecoming to be a big one. I worked with them to secure a location, commission supporting acts, and take part in the marketing efforts. It was the first time my creative management company, Rick & Ray, did something like this. The Roxy was filled with over 300 people of all ages who raised their fists and bobbed their heads for Malcolm and Martin, Rhythm Natives, Thurzday, and Bambu. At the end of it, we were so hyped. Needless to say, it was a huge success.

LIVE FROM ECHO PARK June 1 2011
Last Sunday, Backside Echo Park made their existence official. To help celebrate, they threw an in-store party for their closest friends and colleagues, and then opened up The Echo for a free concert that included performances by CBG, El Prez, Lil’ Debbie of Kreayshawn, Alexander Spit, Bambu, and Carter, and DJ sets by Vickone and Gomez. Both spaces were packed. Congrats to Eric and the rest of the team.
