ROCKIT ROOM May 25 2011

For the second part of the band’s bay area tour, they performed at the Rockit Room - a music/concert venue in the Richmond district of San Francisco. They joined Bambu’s Smuggler’s Tour along with local acts like Vandal 9, Mike Dash E, and Kiwi. I loved that the guys played in a new environment. The people were welcoming, real, and enthusiastic. Can’t wait til we’re back there again!

111 MINNA May 24 2011

So as I said, the team was up in the bay for two Rhythm Natives shows. The first was at one of my favorite places in San Francisco - 111 Minna. Tucked in an alley in the city, Minna Gallery is a 4,000 square foot art and leisure space, blending artists with music on a regular basis. Christine and I were discussing that there isn’t really a place like that in LA. An art gallery that has a full on bar, and turns into a club-like spot in the nighttime. Maybe that’s why I like it so much. It’s different, it’s fresh.

That Friday we were there, the gallery was showing an exhibit called Presence of Absence.

And then later on in the night, the crowd came in for a party thrown by Reignforest Collective and Xarius Sound featuring my boys. (Photos by Sherwin Techico)

SANTA CRUZIN’ May 21 2011

Hey guess what, I actually “relaxed” while up here. I dipped out of the city to spend a day in Santa Cruz for surf, games, and possibly the best ice cream I’ve ever had.
