MEET ROB September 23 2010

After so many text messages and sporadic phone conversations, I finally sat down to have dinner with Rob - owner of the up and coming brand, R-Circle.

Photo

We connected through a mutual friend, and in between introductions of clothing lines, hustling, music, and soccer, we realized that we had far too much in common to not build together. R-Circle is his baby, a streetwear label for the grown ups that combines his Euro past and his LA present. The name represents a union of creativity, whatever industry you may be in. Kind of like The Sopranos, the circle will have your back. Look out for a preview of his pieces early November.

Photo

And when he’s not developing that, he’s breaking glass sliding doors (hence the wrapped arm). Just kidding, though he was fresh off a freak accident that left him with 14 stitches and some unforgettable views of his own tendons. Get familiar with Rob - this won’t be the first and last time you’ll hear about him.

FALL INTO ME September 22 2010

It’s finally here - Fall, Autumn, whatever you want to call it. As you’ve read before, it’s my favorite season for fashion. The sophistication, the simplicity, the layers. I’ve been checking out lookbooks here and there, and picked out a few of my favorites. This entry could be a lot longer but I will not bore you.

10 Deep: In my opinion, the New York brand takes a stab at Cali style with a poncho and denim jacket. Since my heart is in both states, I’m all for it.

Photo

nonnative: The modern sweatsuit. Pay attention to the detail - the uneven weave, the contrasting grey, and the zippers at the hem of the pants.

Photo

master-piece: Just because of the Nordic print that also kind of reminds me of a Navajo print.

Photo

Madewell: I like the rustic coat and vest paired with the preppy button up.

Photo

Levis: The simple white t-shirt against denim is a favorite look anytime. There is something oddly American about this photo, too.

Photo

Sperry: Because real women rock boat shoes.

I really wanted to incorporate the Lanvin x H&M collab or the entire Marc Jacobs collection here, so honorable mention goes to you!

OFFICIAL HIT September 21 2010

I had the opportunity to watch this video (that officially dropped yesterday) during the LA premiere party earlier this month. Let me tell you how it all started. Rocky hit me up making sure I was going to check out the event with hopes that I would document it since no one else was. I obliged and made my way to DTLA the following evening.

When I pulled up to the Seven Lounge, I realized that my memory card was out of commission. No problem – there was a Walgreens AND a Rite Aid across the street. Except that both were closed. Again I thought no problem; someone either in the area or in the bar would lend me a card. Still no dice. I originally thought to let it go, there was nothing I could do about it. But I couldn’t. So I took a cab all over Downtown, ended up on Sunset near Chinatown, at a 24hr CVS. I bought a new one and made it back to catch one of the sickest music videos I’ve seen.

Good music videos are hard to come by these days. It’s almost like a lost art. But Xylophone Films and Kid Heroes add another great one to their catalog. Peace to strong women, especially the strong women in hip hop. Don’t mess with us. Congrats, Rocky!

And if you haven’t seen the LA premiere pictures, you can check them out HERE.

ON THE LAST DAY September 20 2010

The crew was on deck to pay homage to Fat Beats on its last day of existence on Melrose Ave. I unfortunately didn’t get to check out any of the last few in-store events, but I was really happy to hear of the support and love it received. I’ve been visiting Fat Beats since high school even though I was never a die hard vinyl collector. It was more about the culture it represented…You’ll be missed.

One last look.

SOUTHERN CALI September 18 2010

I was back on the road this morning, this time to hang down south. I really came down here to take advantage of the swell that Hurricane Karl left behind. 5 footers!
