HOT SPOTS September 30 2010
I had a meeting with Ernie, a nightclub exec for On Point Promotions, who showed me some spots around Hollywood for a collaborative event we’re throwing in November. I normally steer away from places like these - the dress codes, the lines, the expensive drinks, just aren’t attractive. But I will admit, they are a lot nicer than the dives I go to…
This is Ernie, taking a big bite out of Umami.

La Vida, on Gower and Sunset.

Kress, on Hollywood and Cahuenga.

Stay tuned for the event!

THAT’S THE TRUTH September 29 2010
If you’re listening to music that’s coming out of Los Angeles (U-N-I, Miguel Jontel, Skeme, etc), chances are they were recorded at Truth Studios. I was there last night with to hang with lead engineer, Glenn, as he mastered the Rhythm Natives debut album. My friends are cooler than your friends.

POP ROCKS September 28 2010
My cousin had been telling me about this new candy and soda store that had opened in Pasadena mid-Summer. I have to admit, I was wondering what was so great about it. I know now. For one, they sell candies from all over the world. I’ve traveled enough to have my favorites from different countries. Two, they have a gang of soda that I never knew existed. Their ginger ale game is on point. And three, they incorporated vintage music posters into their inventory, which decorates their walls.
Besides this being a spot in the LA area, I really wanted to post about Rocket Fizz because I enjoyed the story of its owners. I had a chance to rap with one of them after leaving my Bit-O-Honey on the counter. She and her business partner were in the music industry for 15+ years, and are now finding themselves the happiest they’ve ever been. All it took was a tweak in the traditional candy store model, and letting love be what you do.

ALL WORK, ALL PLAY September 27 2010
I spent last weekend in Laguna Beach at the west coast THiNQ headquarters. It’s not a typical environment for an emerging beverage brand, but it still spawns a lot of creativity. The hand-built stainless steel property is nestled in the canyon, with a smooth ground for skateboarding - which is necessary to travel from pod to pod (offices). We were there to produce cross promotional materials, though I was more interested in playing…

BACK HERE AGAIN September 24 2010
I’ve been in the studio most of the week with the Rhythm Natives who are finalizing their album that drops next month on the 19th. Last night while I was there, I finally had a chance to meet Kronic Plague, a name I’ve heard plenty of times in this circle of musicians I’ve been blessed to work with. Even better, I got to hear him lay down vocals for one of the band’s tracks. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this album is going to be ridiculous.
