DAILY BANTER January 27 2010
Debating is a huge part of the team’s conversation. We often go back and forth on a variety of topics from politics to music, movies to sports. It normally starts off by asking what so and so’s “top 5” is on a specific subject.
The other day we got into Top Black movies of all time. Forgive the name of the category, but we really didn’t know how else to put it. This was a really difficult one for us, especially for me and Jon (we had to add honorable mentions below our picks). I even decided to make it a top 6 instead. Note that these aren’t in any particular order.
Me: Set it Off, Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society, Poetic Justice, Love Jones, Brown Sugar

Honorable Mention: Juice, Love and Basketball, Class Act, Crooklyn, Coming to America, Boomerang, Higher Learning, Panther, Soul Food
Kim: Boyz N The Hood, Poetic Justice, Love and Basketball, The Wiz, Barber Shop, What’s Love Got To Do With It

Jon: Love Jones, Menace II Society, Boomerang, Juice, Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X

Honorable Mention: Coming to America, CB4, Boyz N The Hood, New Jack City, Friday
Claro: The Wood, Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Friday, White Chicks (I really don’t know what’s up with that last pick)

THE ESSENTIALS (PART ONE) January 26 2010
I thought it might be fun to take a break from normal blogging content and do a two part series called “The Essentials” on me and Kim. Basically, we let you in on a few things we deem as daily necessities. Today, we start with me, Creative Director for CA.

Jade cross necklace and three bracelets
I don’t normally wear jewelry, so these items serve as my accessories to compliment an outfit. Each piece means something to me - whether it be about spirituality, friendship, or family.

Gadgets
Blackberry curve to stay connected. If I don’t reply to an email quickly, I start having anxiety attacks. Verizon internet card to be able to access the internets wherever I go. It’s the best $60/month I’ve ever paid. iPod to keep me sane. The Toughbook is my laptop. While most of my friends and colleagues rock Macs, I use this. It’s the most rugged computer in the market, meaning I can throw it around if I really wanted to. And I have. The only thing missing from this photo is a camera, obviously because I needed to photograph for this entry.

Notebooks and fine point pens
You would think that I didn’t need a notebook considering there is a memo feature on the Blackberry, and considering there is Word installed on the laptop. But there’s something about the act of writing. My thoughts, ideas, dreams, action items, and designs are all here written in fine point pen. Black ink is preferred.

Medicated chapstick
Because chapped lips ain’t the biz.

Sunglasses
I never leave home without them, even if it’s a gloomy day in LA. My eyes are sensitive to bright light, so you’d likely catch me with shades on til it’s absolutely necessary for me to take off.

Stay tuned for Kim’s Essentials Feature coming later this week.

DE-VIRGINIZED January 25 2010
Even after living in LA all my life, there are still places I have yet to see in the city. Angel’s Flight, Angel’s Knoll Park (better known as the park from 500 Days of Summer), and Grand Central Market were on my list prior to yesterday. Thanks to our photo/videoshoot storyboard, I had a chance to cross these places off.
Angel’s Flight - an inclined railway in Bunker Hill, and also the shortest railway in the world. If it were functional, the trains would only go 350 ft - between Hill and Olive streets.

Angel’s Knoll Park - a pocket park also in Bunker Hill. Benches, trees, and a solid view of the city. You can definitely catch moments of serenity here.

Grand Central Market - a metaphor for Los Angeles in and of itself. The open air market features a diverse selection of food. Glen says they have the best pupusas there.
