OWNER PICKS December 30 2009

...of oh nine.

For this best of entry (and probably our last, considering year end is tomorrow), Kim and I picked our favorite release of the year. We had Peeking Pig, Dirty Dogs, Be a Change CA Change, Recycle, CA Baseball, CA & Sons, People Power, CA Crew 09, and Peeking Pig Hoodie. They were photographed by Sam Dawes (Studio Artistre), then Gerard Bello, then Alex Rapada, then David Sambilay (Oh Snap Photography), and then by yours truly. They were modeled by Kim, Christine, Jon, Boj, David, and Danny. Some succeeded in sales, others didn’t. Overall, there were two that stood out for us.

KIM: Live and Die in CA. This is my favorite release since it’s based on a line from my favorite rapper. The Old English font brings a little gangster into it, and the “CA” instead of “LA” is both an ode to our home state and to the brand. After all, we are in the market for expansion.

TRICIA: The Los Angeleno. This tee is so simple, yet so loaded with meaning. We were challenged to convey a typical Angeleno by means of a t-shirt. So we decided to use the price on the magazine (the font is from the New Yorker magazine) to help us out. The price one pays as a Los Angeleno is cultural immersion. cultural immersion implies adapting. In a city so diverse, we adapt to and absorb the different people, values, traditions, places. I want to see this on a crewneck. Or on a purple/gold colorway. Thoughts?
