BACKSIDE BIRTHDAY September 26 2009

The homie Eric - part owner of Backside in Burbank - celebrates his birthday today. He’s been through a whirlwind of a year, and still manages to hold it down at the store along with his other streetwear ventures like Erratic Clothing. Tonight, he celebrates life at Match in North Hollywood. Catch the team there…after the SC game. Happy birthday, E. Cheers from all of us at CA.

TWO FIVE NINE September 25 2009

Today, Nike released the second installment to Manny Pacquiao’s product line - the “Lights Out” Air Trainer 1. This particular shoe pays tribute to Pacman’s latest victory against Hatton. It took Pacman 2:59 to knock the Brit out. Thus, it’s only appropriate that 259 of these glow-in-the-dark shoes were created. 159 of them are sold at Nike Park Fort in Manila and the remaining 100 scattered around the US. Friends in Manila informed me that the line was ridiculously lengthy, and they couldn’t get their hands on a pair. I haven’t heard anything from the Montalban here in Hollywood, but I imagine they are sold out. Ebay already has them listed at $1800 +. I’m not much of a sneakerhead these days, but I am really appreciating the design on this one. The translucent rubber sole has the date of the fight and the KO time. The MP logo is present, and so is “Pacman Knows”. Most of all, I like the integration of the Philippine eagle. I think that’s laser etching on the outside. A graphic can be found on the insoles.

MOBILE FOODIE September 24 2009

Ok so I guess Kogi really pioneered the LA food truck craze, even though the Latin American community had been doing it for years. There’s so many to keep up with; I think all of Asia is pretty much covered at this point. People have dedicated their twitter accounts to following these trucks, there’s even a website like this http://findlafoodtrucks.com/. But I’m not hating, it’s a refreshing change to my usual eats.

For lunch today, I went to the Indian truck, “India Jones”. It’s just a little over a month old, which was good for me because the line was short. The food is great. The menu is simple: they have frankies, which are like wraps, parathas, curry plates, and other smaller items which they deem as “street food”. They’ve even hooked up with a local cafe in Culver City to regularly serve their food on Thursday nights. Apparently that residency is much more popular than the lunch hour because the cafe serves alcohol. I totally get that…

SYMBIOTIC RELATIONS September 23 2009

Work hard: meeting with Matt (RN) to discuss the band’s press kit, and meeting with Boj to discuss design for the CA two year anniversary tees and CD cover.

Play hard: Alibi Room with the rest of the guys for Kogi and a few 22’s of Korean’s best import, Hite. I don’t know what was up with my camera on those first two shots, but whatever.

BRANDING 101 September 22 2009

Especially in today’s economy, up and coming brands struggle with marketing strategies. Here, we really try to think outside the box. We focus on social media, networking, music, endorsements, the ezine, et al. Right now, we’re moving towards better search engine efforts. And in all honesty, it’s a continuous learning process for us. Zach, our web developer, sent over this video about a South African brand’s genius strategy. It’s absolutely brilliant. We’ve got a lot to learn!
