TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY July 31 2009

P-Rod’s day in LA. This video is ill!

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM July 30 2009

Last year when I moved out to the Brentwood area, I started asking friends for recommendations for good eats around here. A common answer was pretty much anything on Sawtelle. I was already familiar with it - Hurry Curry, gr/eats, Asahi Ramen, and this one boba place that served the best lychee milk tea. And then some of the guys from the Rhythm Natives told me about FuRaiBo. Best place for chicken wings, try their halibut, etc, etc. So I tried it.

First experience wasn’t such a good one. There was a bug crawling all over my table during lunch. But I went for the second time. That time, my yakitori chicken took a good 45 mins to prepare. By the time I got the food, my hunger had passed. Then there was the third time. And it was exactly how I originally imagined it to be (except without the halibut because that’s only served at dinner).

I haven’t recommended a good place to eat in awhile, so here it is. FuRaiBo on Sawtelle. Overlook the occasional slow service and rare bug sighting, because the food is awesome.

IN PREP MODE July 29 2009

kimCA, Christine, and I made the journey out to Covina last night to meet Gabe and Jake of The Big Pill. August is going to be a huge month for all of us. Christine and I are participating in a Michael Jackson tribute hosted by the fam at KAP on August 28. The Big Pill will be our band for the four songs we’ve chosen to sing. The next night, the guys have a show at the Pasadena Jazz Institute with special guests Eden Espinosa and John Avila (Oingo Boingo). This will be another ‘Chicharon Adventures presents’ kind of gig, much like the two shows we co-produced last May. You’ll definitely hear more about it on the site, on CA’s twitter, facebook and myspace (are people still on myspace?), or on my twitter.

We talked marketing, logistics, musical arrangements, and the first collaboration tee between CA and The Big Pill. We then made our way to the Pasadena area to finish off a productive night at Barney’s Beanery, where Christine and I lost terribly to Jake and Kim at foosball. The end.

MOVIE TIME July 28 2009

Watch this. It’s awesome.

Photo

With all the crazy wolfpack action from the weekend, it was nice to unwind with a movie. I’ve actually been wanting to watch this since I caught wind of it during Sundance. I’m more of the independent film watcher, choosing low budget quirky plots over epic ones. Not only is the story pretty original, but “500 Days of Summer” does a really good job at character development and cinematography. Plus it’s funny. And there’s eye candy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel make a great looking pair). Oh, and the soundtrack is pretty bad ass. Enough said.
