TRIBUTE June 30 2009 Music
Back in college, I used to have a roommate named Carlo (c+locious) who was so dedicated to music. When I’d be watching a foreign film, he’d be making beats with his drum kit in the next room. He actually taught me how to play. When I would walk downstairs, I’d see him on the piano trying to perfect the melody of Mary J. Blige’s “I Love You” to play back on his Nokia phone. It’s no surprise that Carlo has continued to produce music, as well as the hip hop group, Broken Dreams, based out of San Diego. One of his major influences was Michael Jackson, and he is undoubtedly affected by the news of his passing. But Carlo did what he does best to ease the situation. He created the tribute joint below. I’ve heard a lot of mixes on the radio these last few days, but his has got to be my favorite. It’s 5 minutes of pure win. Wait til the end of the video, and you can catch a glimpse of little Carlo, rocking his MJ Thriller tee.
ALOHA June 30 2009 Art
Kim and I made a quick trip to Beatrock last Sunday to support their latest art installation featuring Hawaii’s own, Pancho Abalos. We were only able to stay for a little bit, so we missed out on the cupcakes and The Parks Finest, but Pancho’s work was well worth it. The space was an explosion of color, intricately set against Pancho’s captivating characters. See for yourself.

Beatrock actually released some exclusive merchandise for the event which included t-shirts, prints, and stickers. Pancho is very open to seeing his work on apparel, so we plan to work with him in the near future.

It’s tradition that when we visit the store, we take shots with the Beatrock team. Sunday was no exception. Besides, there’s a lot to toast about - life, art, community, and MJ.

Fatgums on deck. Beatrock is releasing his “A Peaceful Riot” (with Bambu) on vinyl this coming August. If you are a record enthusiast, make sure you keep your eyes open for this.

SO MUCH SOUL June 29 2009
As promised, our photo and video coverage of Soul Sessions last Friday night. Enjoy.

WE ARE CA June 27 2009
The wolf pack (formerly known simply as the crew) had an amazing time at Soul Sessions last night. MJ was on full rotation on both floors, the Rhythm Natives killed it, and CA love was spread all around. Stay tuned on Monday for our coverage.
In the meantime…
KimCA and I never really take pictures together. Actually, I hardly post pictures of us on the site. But Cokoy took a good one of us while in Disneyland, and I thought I’d share it and put faces to the names. Of course when we met up we realized we were wearing the same crewneck.
