4 WHEEL FAIL April 25 2009
The crew and some family enjoyed our youth last night by celebrating David's birthday at a roller rink in Glendale. Upon invitation, I was reminiscent of those days when I was younger and would frequent two hot spots in the valley: Skateland and Iceoplex. My friends and I would alternate between hardwood floors and ice on a weekly basis. I wore the shit out of my Phantom rollerblades and Bauer hockey skates (both were purchased at Fedco, by the way)! So you can imagine that I was pumped to skate again...Until I actually put the four wheel skates on.I'm pretty good with learning new things. And in one way or another, I get pretty good at whatever it is. I can skateboard, snowboard, surf, play guitar, etc. But I cannot rollerskate. Luckily I didn't fall, but me and the shag carpet walls had some serious time together last night.

WIN IN 5 April 24 2009
I saw the Utah Jazz rob us of Game 3 in the comfort of my own home last night. I was supposed to meet up with my friend Franco at Big Wangs, but it didn't follow through. It was quite alright; I like to keep the anger to myself. We'll win it on Monday. Properly...on home court.Dinner: beef steak and rice.

Drinks: lychee iced tea straight from Manila.

Dessert: Arnott's Originals (aka Tim Tams) straight from Cost Plus World Market.

Boooooooo: I hate Carlos Boozer.

MEET JON April 23 2009 Music
To continue my quest to individually know all members of the Rhythm Natives before their interview goes live, I met with Jon (KreativeThought) last night.
Jon is 1/3 of the emcees in the 7 person band. Using real life experiences - as a Filipino American, an Angeleno, an artist (he cited our cultural hybridity tee when explaining this) - for the foundation for his craft, he's come a long way from rhyming on people's voice mails. For Jon, writing comes naturally. It's never a forced art, but rather one shaped by the inspirations around him. More than anything, that inspiration comes from other talent like Little Brother - who offers consistency in the hip hop world, or Little Wayne - who arguably has the most unique style in the biz. Moreover, there is inspiration to be found in this gripping economy. Jon believes that it is in dark times that creativity unleashes. He kind of hopes that economic conditions actually continue so that people feel the need to rethink and reinvent.
After understanding him as an emcee, we talked tattoos, independent music, the evolution of both our ventures, and our home - the Valley. All that over some Italian food and the best nutella croissant I've ever had.
Now I've got five more guys to harass.
