IN MOTION December 3 2008 Events

We're moving forward in our relationship with Long Beach's Beatrock. Last week we sent our lookbook over to Dave for review, but it unfortunately never got to him. So we're resending.

As you may remember, Dave heard about us during Beatrock's opening night last October. Here's where it all started. Bigups to Matty for rockin' it.

Next up...Backside!

GLOSSY December 2 2008 Art & Fashion

Besides trashy celebrity news publications and art/business/fashion/political ones, too, I like to read Interview Magazine. I cannot for the life of me remember when I bought my first issue, but I do remember being intrigued by its large format and intense photographic layout. Any text on the front cover was overshadowed by the full face of the 'interviewee'. And on the inside, you'd delve into the featured life by reading a no bullshit style of dialogue.

With the launch of their new website, the magazine is even cooler. Packed with tons of content from various industries like fashion, film, and music, you can easily be on this site for hours (as I was). What I really enjoy is "cultural roulette" on the homepage. When you click on it, the site generates a random story. So far, I've read about the girls of Battlestar Galactica, the photography of Taryn Simon, Pharrell Williams, and Chester French.

It is now my goal for Chicharon Adventures to be on this site. I can envision it now.

VEG OUT December 2 2008

Food entry...

While in Orange County over the weekend, I had lunch at a newly opened spot called The Veggie Grill. RED8 had recommended it to me as healthy eating that doesn't taste like healthy eating. If you know me, I don't really pay attention to the "eat your vegetables" rule. I'm a true meatarian, but I gotta hand it to The Veggie Grill. It was great. The decor is modern - an earth tone motif with natural wood benches and tables. Red square dining chairs with chrome legs were scattered throughout the restaurant, probably to add some flair. But let's get to the food part. Their menu has no meat on it. Their crispy chicken sandwich isn't really chicken (though it sure tasted like it). They have no soda, either. Just water, tea, and juice. And instead of traditional fries to go with your meal, they serve sweet potato fries complemented by a spicy vegan sauce. Accolades from several OC publications were posted on the wall; you'll have to visit it to know why. Unfortunately, you will have to drive down there because LA is lacking.
