BONAFIDE December 5 2008 Collabs

I've been dropping clues here and there about our upcoming relationship with Backside in Downtown Burbank. I've been going to this store since I was in high school, when it was strictly about records. They had the best collection of music, and even had in store performances with (now) big names like Linkin Park. They have since expanded their presence to include clothing, carrying brands like Obey, Freshjive, Upper Playground, and Mama.

Late this week, we met with the co-owner of the store, Eric, who offered a lot of insight for Chicharon Adventures. We were treated with information about the industry - what works and what doesn't, the effects of our shitty economy, beefin' brands, and strategies.

Our night ended in a partnership. Backside will carry CA by the new year. As a start, they'll be stocked with our new crewnecks, which will hit the online store on Friday, December 12. As always, we'll keep you posted.

SPOKE TOO SOON? December 5 2008 Skate

In the Fall, we released a t-shirt that made the statement, "People in Manila Don't Skate". The shirt was heavily inspired by my experience in Manila; I was bummed that kids didn't have an outlet like skateboarding. I'm not sure what contributed to this reality - economy, poor infrastructure, whatever - but that's what I noticed. Our shirt fell into the awareness category, as we wanted to help bring skate culture to the pacific islands.

Lately, it seems that its getting there. Team Manila now carries long boards in their lifestyle store. The Daily Grind had a photo spread on skaters in Subic Bay. And then today, Tim (Sunday) sent me an article from Volcom. Some of their team visited the capital city and had themselves a three day session. Check it out HERE.

SUP FU December 5 2008 Los Angeles

Because we're both on the Westside during the week, I met up with Ryan yesterday for lunch on Sawtelle at Fu Rai Bo. Hanging with him has been long overdue; we hadn't caught up in awhile and I needed him to paint my Chucks since my original pair got busted. By day, Ryan is a designer. By night he's a certified MacGyver. It's a sure bet that when we chat, I'm let in on a new project that involves him making some crazy shit for the end product.

Ok so me and Ryan didn't actually have a pleasant experience at the restaurant. We were seated at a corner table and mid-meal Ryan notices something creeping on the wall. A bug was crawling towards our table. We immediately got up and moved, and our lunch was pretty much screwed after that. This was my attempt at evidence, but I couldn't get a good shot cuz I was so freaked.

We left the restaurant for a quick look around GR2. We both decided that this was the place to be for cheap Christmas shopping.
