There’s a lot of hype about the environment these days, and frankly, it’s good press. Over the weekend, I caught a televised lecture from David Rothkopf, an international policy thinktank, who was promoting his new book entitled ‘Super Class’. He mentioned something that really stuck out, and that is–there’s something unique about environmental problems. When the climate starts to drastically change, people in Cali aren’t the only ones experiencing it. Everyone else is. Therefore a collective solution is needed; the entire world must take those steps in securing a clean future. If we all took those small steps, we’d reap huge reward. And that’s something to think about. Today, countries all over the world are celebrating Earth Day. Do your part in helping our home. When you go to the store and buy a small item, don’t ask for a bag. Change a few lightbulbs. Unplug your flat iron after you’ve used it. Carpool. Request paperless billing. Just help. This has been a message from Chicharon Adventures, advocates of going green. Happy Earth Day!
MTRLSTC and I were hashing out some ideas on new additions to the brand. The spring/month of may/early summer release is in the works, tote bags are in development, and soon, CA x New Era. I was thinking something very simple for the latter, but MTRLSTC opened me up to something fresh. See, I’ve always been into sneakers. Lately, however, I haven’t been keeping up. So while we were chatting, he informed me about the Air Max 90 Bacon Edition (Dave’s Quality Meat collectible). I was already hooked cuz of the tie in to chicharon. So I looked them up, and I was sold on the colorway.
And here I am, forgetting simplicity. Cop these shoes, cuz they’ll soon match your cap.
The team will be at Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow in a freshly made booth at Sportsfest. Come stop by, say hello, buy a tee, get some stickers, and eat chicharon. See you there! [edit]
Thanks to all those who supported the CA team. We made some good friends, and managed to get the Chicharon Adventures message out. Props to the BBALL Junkies, Pnoy Apparel, and RAD. Here was our set up:
We’ve been fortunate enough to have two talented female hip hop artists help out our brand in Seattle. They take their name '1st Quarter Storm' from the period of unrest in the Philippines when former president Ferdinand Marcos implemented martial law. Tomorrow, we’ll be sending out their tees. Ela, who takes care of marketing in the area, has taught us more and more about the duo who are a true inspiration to our generation. About 1st Quarter Storm: Evoking memories of how fresh Blue Scholars sounded when they first emerged, 1st Quarter Storm provides some of the most intriguing hip-hop to come out of Seattle in recent years. The duo boasts the poet's sensitivity, the activist's political message, and the savoir faire to lay it all down with some dope beats. (Seattle Weekly, 2008) Represent.
