Woke up this morning to one of my favorite sights - LA after the rain. I decided to take the dogs for a walk and enjoy it, until it started raining again. Believe me, I can’t wait until Tuesday to see the sun. Mom managed to get a copy of Juno from an industry friend, so we watched it at home. I highly recommend it. I was hooked on the writing and the music (BTW, Amazon is selling the soundtrack for $7.99). I checked the weather report for tomorrow, and it looks like its just going to be as bad as tonight. Whatever the case, the CA team will be at Gallery 1988 checking out the Stan Lee tribute sometime in the afternoon. Here's one piece of artwork being featured...very cool:
My cousin - who’s been helping out a lot with expansion - wrote a brilliant post the other day about Chicharon Adventures. She said something like this: “Dress for Adventure with Chicharon Adventures.” I was hooked, and decided to get my design team together and do something fun with that particular statement. Available now is Adventurous. The safari/leopard/adventure themed tee on a lime colored tee. It was originally planned to be on the color cranberry, but we ran with the whole adventurous bit.
How many things can you remember about your childhood? Granted some memories have left me, but I can recall the things that did make me happy. Kicking the ball over the fence because I knew my neighbor had candy, making booby traps for my grandma, running thru sprinklers, playing Super Mario Brothers, and reading the Little Miss books. We’ve seen a lot of the t-shirt adaptations in stores, and this new tee is the Chicharon Adventures version of it. Little Miss Chicharon has a girl grubbin’ on chicharon, with crumbs on her face, and an empty bag on the floor. Ladies, grab this one before it’s too late.
I would have pictures for this blog, but I left my camera in a friend’s car and she still has it. But I’ll continue anyway. I’m sure most of my fellow Los Angelenos have heard about Sheperd Fairey’s newest exhibit called ‘Imperfect Union’ at the Merry Karnowsky gallery on La Brea. It started over a month ago, and I was only able to check it out a couple days ago. It was actually the perfect time to go - quiet and very few patrons so that you could focus on the beauty of each piece. I’ve always loved Sheperd Fairey. I’m a political science graduate with a love for things street, so I fit right into his genre. ‘Imperfect Union’ was exactly that. Fairey took his vision on topics such as war, oil, peace, pollution, capitalism, and our love for materialism. And on the art side, pieces were layered, silkscreened, painted on aluminum, just crazy forms that warrant appreciation and of course the occasional ‘whoa…’ I felt compelled seeing his two sides of capitalism piece, and I was drawn by a particular phrase. Silkscreening is a ‘tool for empowerment’. And this is what I’m trying to achieve with Chicharon Adventures: cultural empowerment. Embrace your culture, be empowered by your culture, without saying anything at all. Props to Mr. Fairey. Next up: Murakami at MOCA and Giant Robot at JANM. Hope everyone is well.
Wishing all of our friends a happy new year. We hope 08 is filled with positivity, peace, good energy, and love. CHEEEEEZ!! But really, 2007 is when it all started, and we hope that all of you continue your support for this little cultural brand we have here. To start your year off right, the next set of tees are almost ready for release. We’ve got some good collabs coming this year, cuz of course, it’s all about family. We hope you continue to stay on the chicharon ride throughout the year. Blessings… -The CA Team
